How much activation comes on a standard Rapid Palatal Expander?

There are 48 activations on the standard RPE; each activation is equal to 1/4 millimeter.


How many different expansion screws do you offer?

Specialty Appliances carries most manufacturers' screws. They include Leone, Dentaurum, Forestadent, Super Screw, and Summit.


Do you carry the new ratchet style screws?

Specialty Appliances was the inventor of the RES (Ratcheting Expansion Screw). We also offer the Dentaurum "Click", and the Forestadent "Snap-Lock".


What is the most common expansion screw used for palatal expansion?

The Dentaurum MiniPalex Screw, also known as the Variety, is the most common expansion screw used. It has 12 millimeters of expansion capability and is half the size of the traditional RPE screws.


What is the most common distalizing appliance?

The Rapid Molar Distalizer has proven to be a very effective distalizing appliance. The distalization is controlled by the expansion screws in 1/4 millimeter increments.


What are the most effective thumb habit appliances?

The standard cage style thumb habit works on most patients. We also make the rake style for the determined thumb habit patients.


What is the best design for a tongue habit patient?

We use the vertical habit cage with a pearl in the vault of the palate. This will stop the tongue habit as well as retrain the tongue


Do you fit bands and crowns indirectly?

Specialty appliances fits bands and crowns as well as ROC "Removed Occlusal Crowns" on approximately 60% of all the metal appliances we construct. This saves time for the doctors and staff.


What are the most effective lower expansion appliances?

The Lower Fixed Expander is the most commonly used lower expansion appliance. The Quad Helix, Frozat, and J.I. Williams expander are frequently requested as well.
